Having made its bones manufacturing coffin-shaped guitar cases and metal-minded clothing, Coffin Case now enters the effect-pedal market with the BDFX-1 Blood Drive, a surprisingly warm and versatile true-bypass, all-analog distortion unit with killer cosmetics to boot.

Like many dirt pedals, the Blood Drive has three knobs (each has a glow-in-the-dark indicator): Inject (level), Bleed (tone), and Filth (drive).

Setting the Filth to around ten o'clock gives you breakup ideal for classic-rock chording; cranking it gives you a viscous crunch with tight bass response and clear note defi nition that cleans up nicely when you roll back the guitar's volume. This Blood Drive could give your pedalboard a real shot in the arm-and best of all, you won't blanch at the price.
