Expanded, improved, upgraded, and totally killer!

The Access Virus T1 features include greatly increased polyphony, 2 new oscillator types, a per-patch programmable arpeggiator, 16x2 delay/reverb fx, embedded singles in multimode, and much more. The Virus TI Polar links to your computer with VIRUSControl, a companion software product that ports the hardware synth into a host sequencer for use as a sample-accurate VST/AU instrument, simultaneously offering 2-way audio and MIDI connectivity, control surface functionality, editor and librarian functions, and more.

The First Totally Integrated Synthesizer

A scalable USB link connects the VIRUS to a Mac or PC for total integration of synth and studio. The VIRUSControl plug-in automatically detects and connects the synth, ensuring a hassle-free configuration every time.

From inside a host application, the plug-in enables the new VIRUS hardware to appear as a multichannel VST/AU soft-synth with up to 4 sub-mixes (or 2X stereo). Access' proprietary driver technology makes VIRUS TI the world's first hardware synthesizer with sample-accuracy timing and a delay-compensated audio/MIDI connection.

Seamless interconnectivity also provides a real benefit in the software sequencer environment. All multitimbral sounds and settings used for a project are stored within it with the plug-in, for snapshot total recall plus editor and librarian functions with no SysEx or 3rd-party software hassles.

The new VIRUS hardware is also well-equipped to capitalize on the power of Total Integration. With 24-bit 192KHz balanced analog, S/PDIF I/O and MIDI in and out ports, the new VIRUS is well-suited for use as the main audio and MIDI I/O center for your entire rig. These functions are especially practical for the laptop studio, offering an unmatched range of features and capabilities from one product.

Additionally, a new Remote Mode allows the VIRUS hardware to become a control surface for any MIDI-capable device or software, mapping each of the 33 knobs to a specific MIDI message. TI ships with a great selection of templates and includes 32-user memories for custom controller maps. It's a powerful addition that greatly increases the value of the synth's studio footprint.

The Legendary Sound of Access: Evolved

Of course, TI is still a VIRUS, with all the soul of its legendary predecessors, but for Total Integration, the power and performance of the synth engine have been taken to higher extremes, thanks to a freshly optimized core which delivers unprecedented performance. For starters, polyphony is more than doubled, to 80 voices under average conditions.

And the sound? Phenomenal! Alongside the award-winning VIRUS oscillator models, 2 completely new types have been added. First is the real Wavetable oscillator model. This unique algorithm can blend waves to create evolving motion or switch between them to create gritty lo-fi textures.

The Amazing HyperSaw model can generate up to 9x the number of saws without using 9x the required polyphony. In fact, its polyphony is comparable to that of a single voice saw oscillator. With 2 oscillators, each playing 9 main plus 9 subs (36 oscillators per key), you can still enable Unison mode and get impressive polyphonic results. In one test, we calculated over 2000 simultaneous saws! Now imagine all this through Access' award-winning filters, including MiniMoog cascade emulation; shaping raw, pulsating WaveTables; or insanely fat HyperSaws. With its upgraded features, the Virus has never done more or sounded better.

The Mod Matrix has also been expanded to 6 sources with 3 destinations each (18 routings total) for greater realtime control and patch programming freedom. The new Knob Quantize Mode syncs the effect of realtime or sequenced parameter changes to a preselected clock interval. Changes are updated on the selected pulse and held until the next, resulting in staggered parameter movements like those produced by a step sequencer.

New and existing Virus owners will love the addition of a programmable arpeggiator! Users can create and store their own rhythmic pattern in every patch.

Enhanced with new power and resources, Multi Mode now embeds 16 patches for self-contained sounds you can tweak and transform without overwriting your singles or affecting other Multi programs. Use it to build impressive layers, splits, or poly-arps for performance or recording. A mode for use with sequencers is also provided, emulating the classic Multi which loads sounds from within the single banks.

In either case, the complete sound engine is always available to each Multi part, including dedicated delay and separate reverb fx for all 16 sounds. In effect, the full VIRUS TI single modes is replicated 16 times!

Optimization from the Ground Up

Besides adding great convergence and synth engine features, Total Integration is built around a major hardware platform upgrade, sporting a complete redesign inside and out.

A large white graphic display shows multiple parameters at the same time which can be edited using 3 Soft Knobs. Keyboard models feature an illuminated logo on the I/O panel (it looks great, and even pulses in sync with the tempo for other musicians or the audience to enjoy).

Also added in the hardware, a Tap Tempo button helps live VIRUS musicians stay in sync with drummers and turntablists using a sophisticated algorithm based on Access' SyncXtreme technology.

How is it all possible?

Inside, a cutting edge Dual-DSP core delivers stellar performance with super-low latency. TI Polar also employs studio-grade converters with 192kHz/24-bit D/A. These are paired with +4dB balanced inputs and outputs and a switchable soft limiting algorithm, and accompanied by S/PDIF digital stereo output and input as well. The onboard USB port is compatible with USB 2 specifications and works with USB and Hi-Speed USB devices and peripherals. For easy access to all these new jacks, the entire I/O panel of the TI desktop model can be rotated 90 degrees so the interface is on the rear panel. The 4U Rack mounting kit is also included.

Last but certainly not least, the onboard memory has been drastically expanded: 512 RAM patches and 2048 (rewritable) ROM patches plus space for 16 self-contained Multi Mode programs described above. All these new numbers add up to one hell of a synthesizer.

The Korg X50CF 61-Key Synthesizer is a limited-edition camouflage version of the X50 synth and comes packed with the same distinctive and world-renowned TRITON-based sounds as its more understated brother. The X50CF synthesizer is designed for easy and intuitive operation, and has an ultra-light and compact design ideal for the active musicians, song-hunters, or rock music enthusiasts.

Korg's brilliant sounds in a handy size
The Korg X50CF music synthesizer features the HI (Hyper Integrated) sound engine that's used on the world-famous TRITON series. It gives you pro-quality sounds in an ultra-compact body. This keyboard synthesizer delivers unbeatable convenience and enjoyment for live performance or song production.

A rich array of sounds and powerful effects
The 64MB PCM memory contains a wide range of sounds, including piano, strings, guitar, and synth sounds. With 512 sound Programs, as well as 384 Combinations that let you use up to eight Programs together, you can start enjoying a diverse selection of great sounds right away. The effect section lets you simultaneously use four effects (one insert effect, two master effects, and one EQ), and provides a full selection of effect types such as reverb, chorus, and delay. Best of all, the X50CF is compatible with Korg s TR line of music workstations so you can share sounds and songs with Korg users around the world.

Dual arpeggiator makes performance even more fun
An arpeggiator lets you play a variety of phrases using just one finger, and the X50CF provides two polyphonic arpeggiators! For example, in Combination mode you can use the two arpeggiators to play drums and bass while you play chords and melody, giving you amazing power for live performances. In addition to five basic preset arpeggio patterns, the X50CF also provides an additional 251 patterns containing various phrases. Of course you can also create your own original patterns and store them in internal memory.

Easy operation for immediate use
Finding the right sound quickly when you have so many to choose from can be a problem on some systems, but not with the X50CF. It organizes sounds into sixteen categories, and provides a Category Select function that makes it quick and easy to choose the sound you need from the category you specify. There's also an Audition Riff function that provides one-touch audition of each sound. Four knobs can be used to quickly adjust sounds, effects, and arp settings, and the ClickPoint cursor makes the X50CF a pleasure to use and play.

Light and compact design for easy portability
The X50CF packs professional-quality sounds and a wide range of functions into an amazingly light and compact body. Even with a 61-note keyboard that gives you plenty of room to perform, the X50CF boasts an ultra-light weight of only 4.5 kg—about the same as an electric guitar. The compact design ensures that it can fit into the smallest home studio workspace, and thanks to its cool side handles the X50CF is easy to take along wherever you go.

Cutting-edge connections
In a first for its class, the X50CF features individual outputs, allowing professional setups in which the sounds of specific parts are sent to their own outputs. This can be very useful in situations such as recording when you may want to EQ and process each sound separately, and for surround-sound applications.

The X50CF also provides a USB connector that lets you establish MIDI connections with your computer using a single cable no interface needed. A powerful Multi mode give you 16 parts to create music with, with the full complement of effects and other settings to make complete songs using only the X50CF and your computer. 128 Multis can be saved and recalled, with 16 preloaded covering many common music styles and genres.

The X50CF also comes with editor/librarian software that makes it easy to create and organize sounds using your computer. Two versions are provided: a traditional stand-alone application and an innovative plug-in version (VST, AU, and RTAS formats supported) that can run within your DAW and MIDI sequencing software. Both versions are colorful, graphic-rich, and provide a wonderful interface for working with the X50CF in all its modes.

The return of a legend, or the beginning of a new era?

The Prophet '08 from Dave Smith Instruments is an eight-voice synthesizer with a 100% analog signal path. While the Prophet '08's overall sonic character will be familiar to anyone who knows Dave's work from the '70s and '80s, it is much more than just a vintage reissue with a few new bells and whistles. Dave has always said that he is only interested in moving forward. The Prophet '08 is the product of evolution, not nostalgia.

Of course, the analog synthesizer includes features we now take for granted, like velocity and aftertouch. Add to that performance features like an arpeggiator, gated step sequencer, and the ability to split and layer sounds. Legendary vintage sounds in an affordable all analog polysynth!

The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 is a tabletop "knobby" synth module with all of the features and controls of the Prophet '08 Keyboard (minus the keyboard, of course) in an even more compact enclosure. With real analog oscillators, famed Curtis low-pass filters, and analog VCAs, the Prophet 08 Synth is capable of reproducing the familiar sounds of its legendary predecessors. But modern features like a greatly expanded modulation matrix and additional modulation sources-like three envelopes and four LFOs per voice — take it way beyond the vintage — ear and make this a worthy and unique addition to the Prophet family tree.

The Prophet '08 Synth Module features a gated 16 x 4 step sequencer, arpeggiator, split or stacked key modes with separate stereo outputs per layer, and rack ears for optional rack-mounting. The Prophet '08 module can also be used as an expander to increase the polyphony of another Prophet '08 — keyboard or module — to 16 voices.

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 Synth Module Features:

  • The only affordable, full-featured polysynth with a 100% analog signal path.
  • Classic, real analog sound, including legendary Curtis analog low-pass filters, married to a modern feature set.
  • Small footprint, huge sound.
  • Tons of knobs for direct, real-time editing and performance.

The Timbaland Special Edition NeKo (NeKo TSE) is an all-in-one production studio powered by Windows XP, capable of running virtually any Windows XP compatible software, including a variety of DAW software, virtual instruments (VSTi), virtual effects (VST), and other music applications. Timbaland, one of the hottest producers in the past decade, wanted the ability to work on his music from home on a larger unit and still be able to travel easily with his other Open Labs creation, the MiKo. So Open Labs obliged with the NeKo, which utilizes the same gear with matching specs and software. It provides the features that most people are looking for, at a more affordable price.

These Gen4 models are equipped with Intel Core2Quad processors providing exceptional processing power. With the edition of Translator, specially written for Open Labs by Chicken Systems, users can easily convert and manage many different file types within the Open Labs environment. Also included in the preinstalled software is Reaper from Cockos, a DAW with unlimited tracks, which records audio-midi and integrates all of the user s Karsyn presets in an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop format.

The NeKo TSE features E-MU s new Proteus X2 Streaming Sound Module V2.5 with over 10,148 instruments, including the new Ensoniq Urban Legends Sound Library that contains the sounds from Ensoniq s ASR/EPS/MR/ASR-X/ZR instruments. These sounds were specifically requested by Timbaland, and are only available in the TSE units. Running in the Proteus environment, these keyboards are reborn, giving you an incredible combination of high-end audio quality with virtual instruments that would cost you over $60,000 were you to buy the actual models individually.

Included in this special edition is the Open Labs sound library V4, which contains over 35-gigabytes of premium sounds, constituting 28,074 presets and Open Labs Special Edition plugins, optimized by the software developers for use with the NeKo.

Some of the other features include a 61-key semi-weighted synth action keyboard, pitch bend and modulation wheels, a trackpad with 2 buttons, a full (QWERTY) keyboard module, assignable alpha control module, DJ Module, an internal 15" color touch screen LCD with high resolution, and a built-in Presonus FireBox audio interface.

Friendly and fun with great analog-style sound and synthesis control.

Perfect for musicians new to synthesizers or pros looking for authentic analog sounds, the SH-201 features Roland's famous Supersaw waveform, resonant filter, saturation control, and more.

Great Analog-Style Sound
Even though it's super fun and easy to use, the SH-201 is no toy when it comes to sound. With two beefy analog-modeling oscillators onboard, complete with Roland's famous Supersaw waveform and resonant filter, this little synth can blow down doors. It also comes with high-quality delay and reverb effects for adding depth and dimension to the sound, an overdrive control for adding a ripsaw edge, and an arpeggiator for instant rhythmic motion.

Ultra-Easy Operation
This is synthesis at its friendliest. The SH-201's front panel puts every control directly under the player's fingertips in a logically positioned signal path from left to right. No hidden menus, no nonsense. Just play and move the knobs and sliders. It's as simple as that. Students of synthesis will love the ease and immediate gratification of the SH-201. No other modern synth on the market is as fun, friendly, and inviting.

External Audio Input
Playing the SH-201 from its keyboard is only half the fun. External audio sources can be plugged into the SH-201's external input (CD/MP3-player, sampler,, etc.) and the sound can be twisted with the front-panel knobs and sliders. Wave your hands over the SH-201's invisible D Beam for dramatic modulation.

USB Connectivity
The SH-201 can be connected to a computer (Mac or PC) with one simple USB cable. Both MIDI and audio can be routed through the USB port. A VSTi software editor is included, which allows SH-201 sounds to be manipulated from within a VSTi-compatible host software sequencer.

The MOTIF XS7 is a powerhouse 76-key synth workstation from Yamaha. It comes with a mind-blowing 355MB of wave ROM which combines with the Expanded Articulation tone generator for previously unheard levels of expression and sound quality. Also key to the XS experience is the easy-to-use performance recording for capturing ideas as you play—voices and effects intact. Over 1,000 voices (plus 64 drum kits), 4 musical arpeggiators, over 6000 phrases, a sampling sequencer, studio-style mixing, a color LCD, and assignable knobs and sliders for hands on control. Computer connectivity via USB and Ethernet. Includes Cubase AI, optimized for seamless integration with the MOTIF XS.

Instant inspiration, infinite possibilities
With the Yamaha MOTIF XS, inspiration is just a key press away. High-quality sounds to inspire you, intelligent arpeggiators to fuel your creativity, recording features to capture every idea, built-in sampling to create full audio/MIDI arrangements, rhythmic Patterns to compose with, studio-style mixing controls, and versatile effect processing to master your final productions. With all this and more, the MOTIF XS will soon be your go to instrument—whether youre composing at home, recording in the studio, or playing live. It's got absolutely everything you need to make professional quality music.

High-quality sounds to spark your creativity
The MOTIF XS provides an exceptionally broad selection of realistic sounds to spark your creativity, with 355MB of high-quality waveforms and samples on board. A single Voice can have up to eight separate sound elements, enabling composite sounds of remarkable complexity and nuance. Among the standout voices is a resonant, meticulously recorded concert grand piano sound practically worth the price of admission by itself. New acoustic piano, electric piano and orchestral samples—not to mention the richly textured and distinctly electronic synthesizer waves—give you the sonic tools to fully realize virtually any style of music and any instrumentation.

The sound engine has been upgraded with the Expanded Articulation (XA) tone generation system. Using the eight available elements, XA allows you to more effectively recreate realistic sound and natural performance techniques—such as legato, staccato, and key release sounds—often used on acoustic instruments but unavailable or difficult to realize on electronic keyboards. It also lets you assign elements to on/off panel switches, and change sounds within a voice in realtime—for example, playing a classical guitar voice and switching between playing normally and playing high harmonics. XA also offers other unique modes for random and alternate sound changes as you play.

A wide selection of special Mega Voices provide even more expressive nuance, when used with sequencer tracks or the special Mega Voice Arpeggios. Mega Voices are not meant to be played from the keyboard because of their complex velocity layers, but have special expressive sounds that are designed to be precisely triggered by recorded data—for example, letting you create an acoustic guitar track with authentic sounding muted playing, slides, and bell-like harmonics.

Other voice-related features include a uniquely natural half damper effect for acoustic piano sounds. This gives you nuanced control over the sustained sound when pressing the damper pedal, depending on how far down you press the pedal. The MOTIF XS has a full complement of effects, both insert (Insertion) and send (System), and includes a special set of VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) effects that authentically model the elements in analog circuitry, realistically recreating the uniquely warm characteristics of vintage processing gear. Speaking of vintage, the instrument also includes a sophisticated Vocoder effect that produces classic robotic synthesizer sounds, molded by your speaking or singing voice through a connected microphone.

Ideal for live performance, song creation, and arranging
The MOTIF XS has lots of sophisticated features to help jump-start your creativity and live performance potential. One of the most powerful of these is the arpeggio phrase function, which lets you trigger a variety of sequenced phrases from the keyboard. There are approximately 6,000 different arpeggio phrases on board, and you can have four different phrases—playing four different instrument parts—running simultaneously and in perfect sync. The music-making possibilities are virtually endless. Have a drum Voice play an automatic rhythm, add an Arpeggio bass phrase, and fly in other instrument phrases as the inspiration hits you. Everything stays in sync and everything follows your chord changes.

While you experiment and play around with Arpeggios in the Performance mode, the song ideas will come fast and fierce—maybe too many to remember. No worries, though. You can capture them easily and directly by recording them to a song or pattern (which can be stored to the built-in flash memory). Since the data is MIDI, you dont have to worry about running out of recording space. You can record your keyboard playing, freely calling up various Arpeggio types as you improvise, then edit the Song later as necessary. You may even want to keep the recorder running as you play, then listen back later and pick out the best parts to create your final composition.

Another powerful feature is the Integrated Sampling Sequencer, which seamlessly combines audio and MIDI recording. Simply install optional DIMM modules (up to 1GB) and record the audio directly to tracks on the MOTIF XS. Record your vocals or acoustic guitar (with a microphone), electric guitar or bass, or even short rhythm loops from a sample CD.

There's also a Slice feature that automatically chops up your rhythms and riffs into their individual beats and notes, letting you manipulate the component parts of your sample loops as MIDI data—giving you the power to easily change tempo and rhythmic feel, without disturbing the pitch or sound quality.

Intuitive interface, easy operation
Despite all the advanced technology and wealth of features packed tightly into the instrument, the MOTIF XS is exceptionally intuitive and easy to use. It gives you a large, full-color LCD that lets you see multiple parameters at a glance, and has clear, high-resolution graphics with virtual sliders, knobs, and more.

The panel of the MOTIF XS provides an amazing level of control and flexibility. Eight knobs and eight sliders let you instantly tweak a variety of parameters and effects as you play. The eight knobs are especially versatile, letting you use the knobs to independently control eight different parameters (out of 24 selectable), or use them to control a certain effect setting (reverb, chorus, or pan) for up to eight different parts (in a song, for example). The knobs can also be used to change the rhythmic feel and other settings of Arpeggios and Patterns while they play back. Two Assignable Function buttons give you added control over the sound of the new Expanded Articulation (XA) Voices, letting you change sounds within a Voice in realtime.

Other convenient operation features include the improved Category Search function, which now is organized with Dual Categories that help you find the Voice you want. Calling up the Guitar category, for instance, gives you access to the Dual (sub) Categories, such as Acoustic, Electric Clean and Electric Distortion. The Mega Arpeggio Voices also have their own Dual Category for easy selection of those unique Voices.

The MOTIF XS is not only exceptionally intuitive and easy to operate, its a true joy to play—right down to the newly designed expressive keyboards. The MOTIF XS6 and XS7 have a FSX keyboard (61/76 keys), while the MOTIF XS8 features the grand piano-like BH (Balanced Hammer) keyboard (88 keys).

Computer integration
A full-featured music production synthesizer in every way, the MOTIF XS comes equipped with a variety of connectors and interfaces for virtually any application and any studio situation. These include independent Assignable Outputs, A/D Inputs (for recording external sources), S/P DIF Digital Output, MIDI, Ethernet, IEEE 1394 (standard on the MOTIF XS8 and available on the MOTIF XS6/7 with the optional board) and two USB connectors, compatible with the high-speed USB 2.0 standard.

The comprehensive set of connectors—ethernet, IEEE 1394 (FireWire, mLAN), and USB—make interfacing with computers and your favorite software exceptionally easy. In particular, the ethernet connection gives you fast transfer of your MOTIF XS files to and from a computer on the same network. The IEEE 1394 interface (included on XS 8, optional expansion for XS 6 and 7) gives you a one-cable, one-network solution for high speed, realtime transfer of multi channel digital audio and MIDI data.

Software integration
Todays music production is highly dependent on software, and the MOTIF XS is designed to work seamlessly and transparently in your computer based environment. The Remote Control mode lets you control your DAW software right from the panel of the MOTIF XS—for example, starting and stopping playback/recording with the special transport buttons, changing track levels with the sliders, and tweaking parameters with the knobs.

The MOTIF XS is also compatible with the MOTIF XS Editor—a comprehensive, easy-to-use editing software program that lets you edit (via USB connection) the mixing setups and mixing voices to be used for song/pattern playback directly on your computer. The MOTIF XS Editor is free and can be downloaded from the Yamaha website. Naturally, the editor can be used within Cubase as part of Studio Connections, and all settings can be saved with each project for instant recall.

If Cubase is not yet part of your software arsenal, a copy of Cubase AI is bundled with the instrument, letting you dive in and start using the versatile features of Studio Connections right out of the box. Cubase AI is a full-featured music production software that integrates fully with the MOTIF XS, and can easily be upgraded to Cubase 4. It gives you all the tools to produce professional level recordings—quickly and easily—with a system that you can expand into the future.

The Cubase Connection—and Studio Connections
The MOTIF XS is specially designed to function seamlessly with Cubase 4, Steinbergs powerful DAW software—giving you a comprehensive, all-in-one music production system in which both hardware and software are fully integrated.

With our Studio Connections system (created jointly with Steinberg), you can effectively bring the MOTIF XS into the Cubase environment and use it just as if it were a plug-in software synthesizer—no complicated connections or complex setup necessary. Whenever you open a project, your MOTIF XS is automatically enabled as well, with all the custom settings you previously saved. You can use the convenient panel controls on the MOTIF XS to remotely to control a wide variety of operations on Cubase 4. And since song files on the MOTIF XS are in Cubase format, you can create material on the MOTIF XS and easily import it to tracks in Cubase 4 for further editing and mixing.

3 award-winning keyboards in one!

Featuring the best of Clavia's award-winning technologies, the Nord Stage 76 Keyboard hosts three different instrument sections — Organ, Piano and Synth — plus an extensive effects section. You can use two sounds of each Section simultaneously — that's two Organ manuals, two Synths, and two Pianos. These can be combined in any split or layered configuration you need for your performance.

The Stage 76 keyboard's user interface is designed from a basic concept: All vital functions are represented on the front panel - easy to access, and never further away than a press of a single button. After more than 20 years of experience in designing instruments to be used by professional musicians, Nord knows how important it is to make the technology completely transparent for the user. With the Nord Stage keyboard you only need to focus on your performance, which means never having to struggle with the technology.

Nord's patented Pitch Stick and Modulation Wheel are included for maximum musical expression. A top-of-the-line weighted hammer-action keyboard makes you feel that the Stage's sound is balancing at the tip of your fingers, completely under your control. Nord's efficient Morph Grouping technique is also included, allowing you to assign sound and effects parameters to one physical controller.

The organ section.
The Organ Section offers three different organs. Of course, Nord included their famous B3 Organ model, giving you the most accurate and pleasing B3 next to the real thing. The B3 Organ offers many innovative solutions to mimic the typical B3 sound, such as:

•A true organ architecture, based on digital models of 91 tonewheels, thus always giving full polyphony and overtones with natural warmness.
•A complex digital model of the original chorus & vibrato scanner.
•Modeling of the individual random contact bounces for each partial.
•Emulation of the unique frequency characteristics of the built-in preamplifier, forming the "body" of the B3 sound.
•Simulation of the energy stealth on the tonewheels that results in the typical compressed B3 sound.
•Authentic tuning of the tone wheels according to the original B3 design.
•True B3 swell-pedal characteristics.

Nord has also created carefully modeled emulations of two of the most famous transistor organs from the 1960s, the Vox Continental and the Farfisa Compact.

"Draw buttons" and LED bar graphs have replaced the original mechanical drawbars. This gives you the advantage of always having the correct drawbar settings after changing preset.

The piano section
The Piano Section includes six main sound groups: Grand Pianos, Upright Pianos, Electric Grand, Electric Pianos, Wurlitzer, and Clavinet. Nord's commitment to authenticity is manifest in these pianos' subtle nuances throughout the whole dynamic range. The source instruments are recorded at multiple velocity levels, providing the most accurate and expressive pianos ever made for a digital keyboard. The key-releases were also sampled, creating the real sound of dampers returning when the keys are lifted.

The Acoustic Pianos are also recorded with sustain pedal down. When played with the sustain pedal, the Stage's pianos recreate the sympathetic string resonance produced by acoustic piano strings. This adds to the authenticity of the piano sounds by giving them natural body. The Clavinet has an equalizer of its own, which mimics the original D6 tone tabs, and also includes the four Clavinet pickup selections.

Pianos come in many varieties, and while a Steinway sounds great, it might not be the sound you need at the moment. The piano section is very flexible, allowing the user to replace any piano with other sounds from Clavias library of Piano samples free of charge. Use the Nord Stage's USB port and sample-dump software to swap sounds quickly from your Mac or PC.

The synth section.
Don't let the panel fool you; the Stage's Synth Section is a wolf in sheep's clothing — small, but with a big sound. After more than 10 years of designing synthesizers, accepted a new challenge designing a powerful synth with a few controls that would equal the quick and easy manipulation of the Organ and Piano sections. After all, why should you have to be an expert programmer to create lively and nuanced synth patches?

Nord's response to that challenge is the Nord Stage's "power mini synth". The Synth was created on a multi-oscillator concept involving up to 9 oscillators per voice in different algorithms, all controlled from one button and one knob: •Classic Analog Synthesis with dual saw, hard sync, and pulse wave modulation. .
•Three-operator FM Synthesis with 32 different modulation frequencies. .
•Wavetable Synthesis with 32 waveforms, a first for a Clavia synth. .
With the Unison knob you can fatten your sound for lush pads, thick comps, and fiery leads. we've included a 12/24 dB LowPass Filter with resonance, an Amp envelope, a Modulation envelope, an LFO, and a two band equalizer. Three different Synth banks are provided — Synth, Pad, and Lead — for the creation and storage of your own patches, and each bank holds up to 100 sound programs.

The extern section.
The Nord Stage wouldn't be a master keyboard if it couldn't control external devices with ease. The External Section is designed solely for this task, so that any MIDI-connected gear gets seamlessly integrated with the Stage's built-in instruments. Zones, splits and layers are handled exactly as if the external equipment was a part of the Stage itself. All settings are saved together with a Program so advanced setups can be immediately recalled in real-time during a performance.

Effects.
No sound is complete without the proper use of effects. In the Stage 76 Nord has incorporated all the effects required to cover musicians' needs. All of the three instrument sections — Organ, Piano and Synth — can individually be routed through the Stage's built-in effect units. Turning the effects on and off, and controlling the routing is easily done by a touch of dedicated buttons, readily accessible at the bottom of each effects unit.

Unit one — Here you can choose from Tremolo, two Wahs, an Auto-Wah, and an AutoPan. Use the AutoWah with a Clavinet for raw funk licks, create a psychedelic vibe with a Electric Piano on AutoPan, or give a Wurlitzer some body using the Tremolo. There is also a Ring Modulator on board, an effect used by many experimental and electronic musicians.

Unit two — The two Phasers, two Flangers, and two Choruses are modeled from the classic analog stomp boxes that define popular music's sound. These swirling Phasers, metallic Flangers, and thick Choruses that are used by uncompromising professionals everywhere are crystal clear and faithfully simulated on the Nord Stage.

Delay— A delay unit has been included to create haunting echoes or slap back effects. The delay also supports a ping-pong mode, and the tempo is easily adjusted with the tap-tempo button.

EQ/AMP simulation — This effect section combines a three-band equalizer with a sophisticated amplifier and speaker cabinet modeler. Classic amplifiers and speakers, are a crucial part to make vintage Electric piano sounds come alive. Clavia offers the famous sounds of tube amplifiers with a Twin Reverb, a Jazz Chorus 120 and a Wurlitzer speaker cabinet model. When no Amp Model is selected, the unit provides a neutral three-band EQ and a crunchy overdrive.

Rotary speaker — There is also a Rotary Speaker emulation based on the Leslie 122, which not only brings an essential character to a live organ performance, but can also be used with any of the electric or acoustic piano sounds or the synthesizer.

Master effects— Finally there is also a Compressor and a Reverb, which are placed at the end of the sound chain, helping to blend your sounds more naturally together. The Reverb unit has Hall, Stage and Room spaces to create different atmospheres for your sounds, while the simple Compressor helps you keep the overall mix tight and under control.
